The Sport Journal, an electronic journal, is a publication of the United States Sports Academy. It is designed to further the knowledge of sport by allowing professionals in the field to publish articles at this site. The Sport Journal is an Academy trademark registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Publication Information
- The Sport Journal is published quarterly on the World Wide Web, here, at http://www.thesportjournal.org/. Academic libraries around the world link to The Sport Journal.
- Each edition of The Sport Journal will contain between four and nine articles.
- Content will reflect the United States Sports Academy’s academic programs (management, coaching, and sports medicine) and may include other pertinent sport topics, as well.
- Researchers are encouraged to submit articles reflecting current issues in sport that are societal in nature. Examples include but are not limited to the following: abuse of steroids and other drugs, catastrophic injuries, gambling issues, Title IV, violence among fans and athletes, the conduct of agents, sport psychology, sport architecture, declining youth participation, the Olympic movement (including issues surrounding the 2008 Olympic Games), childhood obesity, and athletic scholarships.
- Archives of The Sport Journal are indexed and maintained on the World Wide Web.
- The Sport Journal is linked to academic libraries around the world and receives submissions from professors and sport professionals worldwide.
Submission Information
- The Sport Journal is a refereed journal; all papers considered for publication are read by a member of the Editorial Board in the appropriate field. Click here to view a rubric for writers submitting work to The Sport Journal.
- Articles should be no more than 3,000 words in length.
- All articles must be submitted in the form of an e-mail attachment (as a Microsoft Word doc.) to sportjournal@ussa.edu.
- Submissions must adhere to the American Psychological Association’s publication guidelines (APA style).
- All submissions must be accompanied by the $40 reader’s fee. The fee covers the cost of reading articles, making corrections, preparing materials for publication, and any other related expenses.
- All articles submitted to The Sport Journal will be read. Articles approved with only minor changes will be edited by the Editors and placed for publication. The authors of articles requiring substantial editing will be contacted and asked to make required changes. All authors will be notified of the decision of the Editorial Board regarding publication.
Reprint Permission
The Sport Journal often receives requests to reprint articles. The editorial board is pleased to extend the reach of the journal’s content. If you seek permission to reprint an article from The Sport Journal, please print the PDF form below, fill out the information and fax it to the United States Sports Academy. Subscription Information
The Sport Journal does not have a subscription fee, but the Academy retains the right to set a fee when and if it so desires.
